The Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sacramento Valley/Central California, (CAIR-SV/CC) is hiring a Communications Director to

create and implement a comprehensive media and public relations strategy that capitalizes on CAIR

-SVCC

's expertise and enhances CAIR's image within key constituencies. This position offers a unique opportunity to join the management team at one of the nation's largest CAIR chapters at a time in history when the American Muslim community is facing both incredible challenges and opportunities. Location:

Office located in Sacramento, CA. Work-from-home structure currently in place due to COVID-19. Term:

Full-time, occasional evening and weekends required Position Status:

Exempt Pay Range:

$80,000-$102,000/annually commensurate with skills and experience Reports to

This position requires access to reliable transportation RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide strategic media and public relations plan that will allow CAIR-

SVCC

to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, including the media,

public

officials

and key influencers Serve as lead point person on media interactions (editors, reporters,

producers

and other media professionals)

and actively cultivate and manage media relationships Direct CAIR-

SVCC

's social media vision and strategy Oversee strategic initiatives to target and engage activists, allies, and Muslim community members across all digital channels Draft and edit all external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-

newsletters

and action alerts Pitch and secure stories to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance including CAIR-

SVCC

's programs, special events, public announcements, and other

projects Review, edit, and proofread CAIR-CA publications including the annual report and other various

reports Serves as situation management and crisis communication leader and updates organizational crisis

management plan as

necessary Manage and speak at various press conferences and events; prepare talking points, speeches,

presentations

and other supporting

material Manage and maintain CAIR-

SV/CC

website with updated

content Represent CAIR-

SV/CC

through public speaking and community

engagements Supervise Communications

team i

n day-to-day tasks and

projects Conduct media trainings for staff and community

members QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred -- in the field of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public

Relations

or related

field 5+ years of work experience in a communications/public relations

role

Experience working with media as an on-the-record

spokesperson

Ability to delegate and supervise department

staff Experience developing and implementing communications

strategies Foundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics is necessary Experience managing and writing copy for social media is necessary Familiarity in communicating with the Muslim community is a plus Experience with Canva, Adobe photoshop/In-Design/Illustrator, or other graphic design programs is a plus Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication

skills High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position

communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical

level Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new

initiatives Experience working with the American Muslim Community Commitment to social justice and passion for CAIR's mission and values.
