Position Purpose
Performs minor service and repairs on white fleet vehicles under direct supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintenance & Repairs
  • Performs fluid services and changes as determined by the Preventive Maintenance schedule of the fleet.
  • Performs parts installation and mechanical repairs of various white fleet vehicles.
  • Performs minor service and repairs on mobile air conditioning systems.
  • Documents labor and materials on work orders accurately.
  • Operates hand/power tools, hydraulic jacks and lifting equipment, and other tools using appropriate safety practices.
  • Maintains white fleet in a safe working condition.
  • Disassembles simple components and cleans parts for reassembly.
  • Assists mechanics with lifting and maneuvering heavy parts and components.
  • Follows shop maintenance requirements and responsibilities as directed, including cleaning shop floors, stalls, driveways, tools, and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and outside regular work hours, while under direct supervision, for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns, including emergency breakdowns and service.
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment tools, repairs, and safety.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, including District rules and regulations, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), and Texas rules of the road.
  • Knowledge of engine/motor maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of electronic media (smartphones, note pads, tablets, and so forth) to access work orders and facilitate communication.
  • Skill in determining if measures and clearances are within specifications.
  • Skill in reading and comprehending repair manuals and guidelines on automotive vehicles, including operating/maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and safety rules.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations with accuracy.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Ability to follow directives and work with Mechanics on advanced repairs.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Travels to assigned locations for roadside assistance as required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard shop equipment, including computer and peripherals Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding/cutting torch equipment; torque wrench; heavy shop equipment such as jack and lift equipment; school bus, and other District vehicles.
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; works in strenuous and uncomfortable positions.
  • Motion: Frequent use of body weight and back to obtain leverage and/or lift; moderate walking, climbing; frequent grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; moderate driving.
  • Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying (in excess of 50 pounds).
  • Exerting: Frequent exerting 10-50 pounds of force to move objects; occasional exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force.
  • Environment: Works outside and inside without air conditioning; works on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals/materials, noise, vibrations, and electrical hazards; works around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; requires frequent irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position; requires frequent irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; requires frequent irregular hours and occasional prolonged hours.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required;
    • Specialized training from a Fort Worth ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, accredited college, technical, or trade school preferred.
  • Certification/License:
    • None.
  • Experience:
    • 1 year of general trade, maintenance, construction, mechanical, transportation, or installation experience;
OR
  • Successful completion of an approved Fort Worth ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, including, but not limited to:
  • Welding
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Electrical Technology
  • Construction Technology
  • Aviation Maintenance
  • Automotive Technology
  • Automotive Collision Repair
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Employees must provide necessary personal tools to perform assigned duties. FWISD is prohibited from replacing stolen or broken personal property.
