About the job Welder Millwright Position Summary:Provide welding, mechanical and design support to troubleshoot, repair, and conduct preventative maintenance on Port or Plant. Key Responsibilities/Duties:Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machineryDiagnose, design and repair metal parts of mechanical assets and infrastructure that include but are not limited to buildings, machinery, small equipment, access gate hardware, lighting, heavy equipment and container handling equipmentProvide time estimates for repairs based on material quantity and hoursUse hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasksRead and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments as well as weld and prefabricate metal parts as specified by sketches and/or work ordersCoordinate repairs and suggest repair alternative to supervisorsPerform general fabrication and welding as needed by others in maintenance, including repairing water meter hatches, fabricating parts and bracing for plumbers, welding flange posts and fabricating brackets and bracesLay out position, align and fit components together; bolt, clamp, and tack-weld work pieces to secure in position for weldingSet up equipment and operate welding unitDismantle, straighten, reshape, and reassemble work pieces, using cutting torch and other hand toolsExamine welds of proper penetration and size of beadPerform basic automotive and heavy machinery maintenance involving lubrication, safety and minor repairsWork required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hoursWork a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisorPerform other duties as requiredEducation/Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent required1+ years related mechanic/millwright/welder experience requiredWelding certificationKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:Knowledge diagnostics and repairKnowledge of basic mechanicsKnowledge of safety policies and proceduresKnowledge of safety precautions concerning occupational hazardsAbility to work with othersAbility to pay attention to detailAbility to operate a forkliftA current, valid Texas driver's license is requiredA Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment.Key Competencies Required:Effective communicationPragmatic Decision MakingQuality OrientationTechnical/Professional Knowledge and Skills
