ROLE AND PURPOSE:
To provide assistance to the nurse in caring for students and maintaining student records QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution Experience:
Patient care experience preferred BLS CPR preferred Vision and hearing screener preferred MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
Reinforce health teaching done by the campus nurse SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
Work cooperatively with nurse, campus staff, and parents to maintain health of students Maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
Participate in training to improve skills needed to successfully complete responsibilities ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Assist the nurse in maintaining all equipment and supplies in the school clinic STUDENT MANAGEMENT
Administer first aid to ill or injured students, staff and visitors Document all care given on appropriate record Practice universal precautions consistently Assist the nurse in administering medications according to district medication policy Assist the nurse in performing medical procedures for student including but not limited to: tube feeding, catheterization, and diabetic care Assist with vision, hearing, and spinal screening Assist the nurse with documentation of clinic activity and health record maintenance Check immunization records and assist the nurse in achieving immunization compliance Follow AISD and Texas DSHS policy for exclusion for communicable diseases Maintain confidentiality of all student information and records Inform supervising nurse or building administrator if a need for EMS transport of a student exists Electronic data entry PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Attend staff development as assigned by Health Services Department SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise students during the time they are in the clinic to receive clinic services MISCELLANEOUS
Exposure to body fluids including but not limited to: blood, emesis, urine and feces Lift a minimum of 35 pounds from the floor to a height of 3 feet
