Personal Care Assistant
Rate:
Up to $22 per hour
Job Summary:
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) is assigned specifically to a student or group of students who regularly need one-on-one assistance to maintain appropriate and equitable participation in the school setting. The PCA directly supports the students at the direction of the teacher and is under the general supervision of the Special Education and Pupil Services Department.
Essential Functions: Helps prepare, collect, and set up materials for student participation, following the teacher's direction Provides instructional, behavioral, or physical assistance to students individually or in small groups at the direction of the teacher to reinforce and follow up instruction Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling Maintains daily activity logs for your assigned student(s) Alerts regular teacher to any problem or special information about the individual student(s) Serves as the chief source of information for the assigned students to help any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers Operates and or assists in the use of student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walkers, wheelchairs, braces, canes, etc. Assists students in self-care as assigned by the teacher Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma in addition to any pre-requisite requirements as defined by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short (simple) correspondence, memos, and routine reports Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check Clearance Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance FBI Criminal Background Clearance Demonstrated Knowledge of:
Effective communication with students and staff Various problem-solving methods Demonstrated Ability to:
Follow directions Work closely with support and compassion with students with disabilities
