About the Role LaSalle Network has partnered with a dynamic and fast-paced business law firm seeking a
Legal Billing Specialist
to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal billing within the business law sector and will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely billing of legal services to corporate clients. This role involves close coordination with attorneys, paralegals, and clients to manage billing processes, track payments, and maintain the firm’s financial health.
Legal Billing Specialist Responsibilities
Generate, review, and finalize complex client invoices for various business law services, including corporate, litigation, and transactional matters.
Accurately enter and track billable hours, expenses, and adjustments according to client-specific fee structures and billing agreements.
Ensure compliance with alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), including fixed fees, hourly rates, and success-based fees.
Serve as the primary contact for billing inquiries from corporate clients, providing timely resolutions.
Liaise with in-house legal departments to ensure billing guidelines compliance and facilitate invoice approval.
Adhere to client billing guidelines, including Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs).
Prepare and analyze financial reports such as accounts receivable aging, billing progress, and collections.
Monitor and update billing rates to ensure compliance with firm policies and client agreements, especially for multi-jurisdictional matters.
Manage collections, follow up on outstanding invoices, and maintain strong client relationships.
Reconcile payment discrepancies and generate detailed reports on collections and balances for management.
Legal Billing Specialist Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
At least 3 years of legal billing experience, especially in business law or corporate transactions.
Proficiency with legal billing software (e.g., Elite, Aderant) and eBilling systems (e.g., Serengeti, Legal Tracker).
Knowledge of AFAs, billing compliance, UTBMS codes, and task-based billing.
Strong understanding of business law billing practices and large-scale corporate billing.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with attorneys, clients, and internal teams.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
