SUMMARY
The Nurse Educator (NE) at Alive will be responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support the professional development of hospice staff to ensure high-quality, compassionate, and compliant patient care. This role will serve as a clinical resource, mentor, and trainer to hospice nurses and interdisciplinary team members, focusing on onboarding, continuing education, regulatory compliance, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs.
2. Develop and deliver orientation programs for new hospice staff, including RNs, LPNs, other field clinicians, and administrative staff.
3. Assess educational needs and develop in-service training and continuing education opportunities based on clinical practice trends, audit results, regulatory changes, and staff performance.
4. Support clinical competency through hands-on training, skills assessments, simulation, and case reviews.
5. Collaborate with the Quality, Compliance, and Clinical Leadership teams to ensure staff training meets Medicare Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission standards, and agency policies.
6. Facilitate annual mandatory trainings (e.g., infection control, pain and symptom management, documentation standards, emergency preparedness).
7. Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor in areas such as end-of-life care, communication, symptom management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
8. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, collecting feedback to continuously improve learning outcomes.
9. Participate in performance improvement projects and clinical audits to identify educational gaps and create targeted learning plans.
10. Stay current on best practices in hospice and palliative nursing care, adult learning principles, and relevant clinical technologies.
11. Adjust content and teaching strategies appropriate to learning styles of the student.
12. Deliver constructive feedback professionally.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Registered Nurse (RN) with a current state license in good standing (required) BSN required, Master's degree in Nursing or Education preferred Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) certification preferred or willing to obtain within 1 year Minimum 3-5 years of recent hospice or palliative care nursing experience 1-2 years of experience in a clinical education, training, or preceptor role strongly preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If required to drive to carry out the duties of this position: current driver's license and automobile insurance as required by Tennessee State Law. A current state of TN RN Nursing License or license in a compact state.
