Hatchery Coordinated Assessments (HCAX)

Hatchery Coordinated Assessments (HCAX) is a collaborative partnership among federal, state, and tribal organizations creating access to standardized hatchery fish indicators and metrics for informing regional assessments and reporting needs. The data sharing achieved through the Pacific Northwest HCAX project will inform decisions and reporting requirements that relate to both ESA-listed and non-listed salmon and steelhead, as well as other species that rely on these fish as prey resources. This position will be focused upon data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) into established data exchange structures (DES). Additionally, they will aid in the development and testing of new HCAX data exchange structures. The tasks related to achieving the objectives above will include communicating goals and needs of the project to hatchery and research staff, collaborating with those personnel to locate appropriate data sources, and then developing workflows to ETL those data into regional DES. The data will then be validated and uploaded to a shared, regional database (e.g. StreamNet, HCAX). The workflows will be documented with project personnel in order to build redundancy. This position will also aid with meeting data and technical assistance requests for these data from internal and external customers. Some travel to regional and hatchery offices may also be needed.
