Job Description: This is a one-year temporary position with the possibility of becoming a permanent position.
Manages service calls and emergency police response in an accurate and efficient manner. Maintains activity log and other emergency response notification systems. Operates the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System in accordance with the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console; a computer aided mobile dispatch system, and 700/800 interoperable radio console. Provides excellent communication skills with both internal and external members of the university community.
Answers all incoming general and emergency telephone calls for assistance and information and exercises good judgment in providing for the safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors and Trinity University property.
Documents all information into the dispatch computer daily activity log and file all updated information into related binders including BOLOs, CTWs etc.
Monitors door alarms, fire alarms and video surveillance systems and activates emergency notification systems to include text, email, external speakers, etc.
Analyzes situations, gathers information quickly and accurately, and dispatches patrol officers promptly.
Communicates with other police, fire and ambulance agencies.
Operates the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System in accordance with the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) policies and procedures.
Performs clerical duties, detailed record keeping, and maintains activity log and other emergency response notification systems.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in law enforcement or degree requirements currently being completed.
EXPERIENCE Required: No previous experience.
Preferred: One year of work experience with heavy public contact, interaction and/or police dispatching experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Required: Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System in accordance with the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) console.
Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a professional and timely manner.
Knowledge and application of Communications equipment, including but not limited to 911, phone and radio systems, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Audio Recording Software, TDD, TLETS, Omnigo Reporting Software, cameras and fire alarm software.
Knowledge of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
Preferred:
Knowledge and/or experience in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Required: Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License and have a good driving history. May not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period.
Must possess TCIC/NCIC Certification & TCOLE Telecommunications Operator License within 12 months of hire.
Preferred: TCOLE Telecommunications Operator Intermediate, Advance or Master TCOLE Telecommunications Operator License.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS All jobs require a current Criminal Background Check (CBC).
Must pass physical and psychological exams and a background investigation.
Able to work rotating shifts, holidays and overtime.
