Payroll Accountant
Houston, TX Salary: $95k - $100k / year We are looking for a Payroll Accountant in the Houston area. In this role you would be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of payroll processing and reporting. Ensure that employee compensation is accurate, timely, and compliant with all federal, state, and local laws. The Payroll Accountant also collaborates closely with HR and Finance teams to maintain data integrity, support audits, and contribute to financial reporting. Responsibilities: Process multi-state payroll accurately and on time for salaried and hourly employees. Ensure payroll transactions are in compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies. Maintain payroll records and prepare journal entries related to payroll expenses, taxes, and benefits. Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies. Prepare and file federal, state, and local payroll tax returns. Manage employee deductions such as benefits, garnishments, and retirement contributions. Support internal and external audits by providing payroll reports and documentation. Stay current on changes to payroll regulations and recommend process improvements. Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data in payroll systems. Requirements: Solid knowledge of payroll laws, tax compliance, and accounting principles. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
