Accounts Payable Supervisor
Reporting to the Assistant Controller of Operations, the Accounts Payable Supervisor oversees the decentralized accounts payable operation to ensure accurate and timely payments are made in accordance with the requirements of State and University Policy. This position is responsible for: Supervising Accounts Payable staff and performing administrative functions, providing customer service and training for employees with administrative and fiscal responsibilities. The Accounts Payable Supervisor ensures accounts payable vouchers are processed with accuracy, validity, and in compliance with GAAP, Virginia Prompt Pay Act, University and State Policies, including Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP); monitoring, approving, and reconciling travel-related activities as necessary. This position provides guidance to campus stakeholders regarding the university's fiscal policies and procedures, researches and resolves vendor payment disputes, policies, and procedures and assists in the execution and review of the data collection process that is interfaced to the Virginia Department of Accounts statewide accounting system; management of the Travel Card Program. Assist with special projects as deemed necessary. Considerable aptitude of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and state regulations as it relates to accounting actions.
Working knowledge of and direct experience using integrated accounting systems.
Demonstrated ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of fiscal needs.
Demonstrated ability to train and direct the work of supporting staff. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with capturing, analysis and creation of reports from data collected via automated systems.
Advanced interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents and organizations including management, end users, auditors, central state agencies, and government officials. Experience using Banner Finance system and related systems to include Emburse Travel and Expense Management, Cognos reporting tool, state Cardinal accounting system, and eVA (Virginia's online electronic procurement system).
Progressively responsible experience in supervising accounting or fiscal staff and programs.
