UT MAIN CAMPUS Work Study Information: Supervisor: Sarah Frey Location/Address: 100 West Dean Keeton St, Austin, TX 78712, SSB 1.106 Pay: $19.00 per hour About Longhorn Wellness Center: The Longhorn Wellness Center (LWC) is a department in the Division of Student Affairs that promotes student well-being and creates a healthier campus community utilizing a public health approach. Purpose: The LWC is hiring a graduate student to expand substance use safety programming on campus including facilitating the BASICS and CASICS programs. The graduate student will receive mentorship from staff and will work to improve their motivational interviewing skills and delve into harm reduction work. Approved internship site for some academic programs. Responsibilities: Facilitate educational sessions with small groups of students around substance use and misuse. Assist with ongoing improvement of the BASICS and CASICS programs. Perform administrative tasks such as corresponding with students, scheduling sessions, and responding to email. Collaborate with campus partners to grow the BASICS/CASICS programming reach and referral network. Attend Substance Use Safety Committee meetings. Support the planning and execution of alternative events during times associated with high-risk drinking. Participate in regularly scheduled one on ones, team meetings and trainings. Facilitate substance use safety educational workshops as needed. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in health education, psychology, social work, or other closely related field. Current enrollment in at least 6 credit hours in a UT Austin graduate program, such as counseling, psychology, higher education administration, public health, or social work. Ability to work autonomously and take initiative on starting and following up on projects. Good communication skills, practices empathy and being an active listener. Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience or interest in working with college-aged populations. Experience or interest in working with populations with substance use and misuse related issues. Knowledge of or interest in motivational interviewing techniques. Salary Range: $19.00 per hour Working Conditions: Typical office environment May work outside of typical business hours Work Shift: The position is expected to work 10-15 hours per week. This position starts in August 2025 and is expected to continue through the 2025-2026 academic year. Hours will be primarily completed onsite with some opportunities for remote work.
