The Manager, Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for overseeing daily HIM operations to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of patient health records. This role ensures compliance with state, federal, and accrediting regulations, supports timely documentation and record completion, and collaborates with internal departments and providers. The Manager provides leadership in staff supervision, performance improvement, and the optimization of electronic health record (EHR) systems to support documentation, coding, and reimbursement workflows. Essential Functions Oversees HIM operations to ensure timely completion, maintenance, and accuracy of patient records in accordance with applicable regulations and facility policies. Supervises and supports HIM staff, including scheduling, performance monitoring, coaching, and participation in performance evaluations. Monitors and reports HIM key performance indicators (KPIs), identifying trends, initiating improvements, and ensuring compliance with documentation standards. Coordinates and conducts quality audits, including scanning and analysis reviews, ensuring record integrity and compliance with retention requirements. Maintains oversight of record reconciliation processes, physician documentation turnaround, and record completion to support timely billing and reimbursement. Supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of HIM-related policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory standards and best practices. Coordinates downtime readiness activities and ensures the accuracy and usability of forms, documentation tools, and HIM-related systems. Maintains EHR-related tools such as patient portal and transition of care workflows to ensure functionality and compliance with health information exchange requirements. Participates in performance improvement initiatives through data collection, process evaluation, and documentation review. Collaborates with internal departments and providers to address HIM-related issues, respond to documentation concerns, and support operational goals. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Associate Degree in Health Information Management required or Actively pursuing degree in Health Information Management with leadership approval of an education plan 3-5 years of experience in Health Information Management required 1-3 years of HIM leadership or supervisory experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of medical record management standards, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements. Proficiency with EHR systems and HIM software tools. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments. Ability to lead teams, coach staff, and manage priorities effectively. Analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail. Licenses and Certifications RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician required or RHIA - Registered Health Information Administrator required
