Fire Protection Engineer

Design Engineering is the design authority and owner of the design bases. Fire Protection, which resides in the Central Programs Engineering Department, is responsible for maintaining fire protection design control and providing technical support to the plant in the area of fire protection. Design integrity of the Fire Protection program is maintained through effective configuration control of design output documents (i.e., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures). Performs NFPA 805 monitoring and advocacy for program improvement. Maintains and develops Long Range Planning for Fire Protection System improvements Job Duties/Responsibilities Maintain the Fire Protection Design Basis at the site. Ensure the three Fire Protection defense in depth echelons are maintained. Provide cost-effective modification designs to improve the fire protection program and the safe shutdown capability of the plant. Provide Fire Protection technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering and other site organizations. Develop, plan and coordinate or implement special projects, corrective action plans, and improvement programs to address fire protection plant problems or regulatory sensitive issues. Ensures fire protection engineering products are performed in accordance with the site's fire protection program and are implemented consistent with defined standards and procedures. Consistent with the site's licensing basis, prepare fire protection impact reviews and evaluations, combustible load and suppression capability calculations, and fire hazards analyses. Minimum Requirements Minimum education required of the position B.S. Degree in Engineering or other closely related scientific discipline/physical science generally associated with power plant operations or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at the engineer/technical specialist level.) Desired: Meets the requirements of a Professional Member for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Minimum experience required of the position 5 - 10 years of experience in nuclear power design, operations, or equivalent, depending upon engineering level. Desired: 5+ years' experience in Fire Protection Engineering Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position Good to excellent communication skills. Experience / proficiency in PC use and applications, depending upon engineering level. Desired: Technical knowledge of 10CFR50.48, BTP APCSB 9.5-1, Reg. Guide 1.189 and NFPA 805. Background in nuclear plant shutdown capability analysis including non-power operations. Proficiency in computer codes ARC+, CLM and HASS. Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position Desired: Professional Engineering license. Working Conditions: As a provider of essential services, Entergy expects its employees to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and/or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime associated with such duties. Required to be on an Emergent Response Organization (ERO) rotation.
