The Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin is a statewide, volunteer-driven non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and their families through awareness, education, information, programs, services, and the exchange of ideas and experiences. DSAW provides programs and services throughout the lifespan (Parents' First Call for new and expectant parents, children's services, adult services, vocational services, and aging services), as well as educational opportunities and events. DSAW has partnered with Nicolet High School to provide community-based transition services to students enrolled in the Nicolet Community Enrichment Program, ages 18-21. The Nicolet Community Enrichment (NCE) is offered to students between the ages of 18 and 21 who have met the graduation requirements of Nicolet High School. There is a potential for summer hours during our DSAW summer programming. This position will be a combination of classroom and community-based learning. The Program Assistant is not required to create and establish the teaching curriculum, but will support the lead classroom teacher in delivering the material. The PA will provide job coaching in some circumstances. The PA should show leadership qualities and be able to lead small groups in activities both in the classroom and in the community, and should possess a "think outside the box" mentality when it comes to teaching critical independence skills.
