Previous employees are not accepted. The Licensed Practical Nurse partners with residents and other care providers to create a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment. This includes providing direct and indirect care to residents. The work involves understanding the needs of residents with Alzheimer's and dementia and applying both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques. Understanding difficult behaviors associated with cognitive impairments is essential. The role also includes working in a long-term care environment that resembles a home. Short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation services may also be provided. Nursing services often include IV therapy, wound care, and geriatric assessment and management. Flexibility is required to cover 24/7 needs of the facility and to float to other units as needed. An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the responsibilities may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
