Position Overview
QinetiQ US is seeking an Aerostat Operator 2 with specific experience in supporting aerostat operations to support aerostat systems providing persistent surveillance and detection capabilities to the U.S. Government customer across multiple operational sites in Rio Grande Valley, Texas along the US Southern border. The successful candidate will have experience managing aerostat flight operations on aerostat platforms of any size. You will be part of a comprehensive flight crew actively supporting aerostat pre-launch, launch, ascent, transition, station keeping, and recovery. You will work to coordinate installation repair and improvement projects with operational maintenance and repair timelines. You will report to Aerostat Operations Director and Program Management Office for long term planning of site activities and with the on-site personnel for daily execution. A summary of responsibilities are as follows: Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of technical tasks to include using standard mechanical and electrical hand tools, mechanical disassembly/assembly, wiring, soldering, fiber optic splicing, operating standard and unique test equipment, repairing aerostat fabric, and handling high-pressure gases such as Helium and Nitrogen. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical structures, aerostat structures, hydraulic systems, fiber optic components, avionics and electrical components. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair ground systems such as generators, communication and weather systems. Flight Crew Member (pre/post flight, launch/recovery, helium toppings, snubbing, inflations/ deflations, tether inspections, proficiency in all emergency procedures for both moored and airborne flight aerostat operations). Read and understand schematics, technical drawings and engineering data and reports. Maintain and understand site documentation such as parts request forms, equipment condition tags, timecards, and flight data and maintenance logs. Calibrate all site and test equipment as required. Operate general purpose and special purpose vehicles to include man lift operations to heights of 150 feet. Execute test steps and collect results. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Qualifications
GED or High School Diploma. 2 years of formal technical training (via military or civilian technical schools). Associate and Bachelor of Science degree in any technical discipline can be substituted for years' experience. Must possess 2 years of industry experience in one of the following: Electrical Maintenance with qualification at the 10 and 20 series or greater level from Army MOS or other military branch equivalent or industry occupational specialties. IT with qualifications at the 10 or 20 series or greater level from Army MOS or other military branch equivalent or industry occupational specialties as a Network Installation or CISCO Network Administrator. Mechanical Maintenance with qualifications at the 10 or 20 series or greater level from Army MOS or other military branch equivalent or industry occupational specialties as a National Institute for ASE Certified Truck Mechanic or FAA General Mechanic 1 or greater. Must pass the Aerostat basic training course for continued employment. Valid U.S. Driver's license required. Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Must be willing to work in a 24/7 shift scenario, be assigned to various shifts as required to meet mission requirements, and while rare, temporary assignment to other locations is possible. Proof of U.S. residency required. Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders. Successfully completed Background Investigation with a Favorable Suitability Determination, and issuance of DHS Suitability determination.
