In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Functions in a lead wastewater process engineer role as a technical specialist in the areas of conventional wastewater treatment Using processes such as physical/chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film processes, membrane bio-reactors (MBR), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, and disinfection Provide technical guidance over a process team, supervise engineering staff on projects, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions Black & Veatch Process Engineers develop technical solutions that are critical to winning work and drive design deliverables for critical infrastructure projects with community benefits. The work is rewarding and meaningful The team is comprised of supportive and appreciative professionals Career opportunities exist in many rapidly expanding business solutions Key responsibilities include: Engineering: preparing complex engineering deliverables, supporting multiple projects simultaneously, serving as a technical specialist, performing complex research, developing recommendations for treatment processes, overseeing data collection and analysis, and preparing process models Client Focus: assisting with identification of client interests, communicating client drivers, supporting business development activities, and presenting on wastewater treatment projects People Management: fostering knowledge management, mentoring junior engineers, assisting with performance management, and participating in coaching and career development opportunities Engineering Standards: providing guidance on design guides and standards, assisting in developing and updating engineering standards, and providing technical guidance to others Quality / Continuous Improvement: applying knowledge and complying with quality programs, supporting continuous improvement efforts, and coordinating with internal/external team members Resource Management: implementing resource management strategy, managing engineering resources for small groups Administrative: ensuring policies and procedures are implemented, ensuring adherence to corporate programs, and approving expense reports Preferred qualifications include: Advanced degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering 10 years of experience in wastewater treatment with at least 5 years in water quality and treatment Advanced knowledge of process design and engineering design principles Experience with modern process simulators Leadership skills with a deep understanding of consulting, project execution, and business development Effective written and oral communications Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program Minimum of 8 years related work experience Certifications required: Professional engineering license from any of the states in the USA or ability to obtain one within 2 years of employment Work environment/physical demands include: Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards, atmospheric conditions, and physical activities Competencies include: Collaborates Communicates effectively Courage Directs work Instills trust Interpersonal savvy Organizational savvy Customer focus Decision quality
