Early Employment Intern

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities. A force for humanity, IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity and hope to millions. The IRC in Richmond opened its doors in October 2015 to give refugee families the tools they need to take control over their new lives in the greater Richmond area, assisting them toward self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and community integration. The Early Employment intern collaborates with Employment Specialists to help clients secure jobs through the Matching Grant (MG) and/or Refugee Social Services Employment Program (RSSEP). Stable employment is a crucial step in the resettlement process. Our team offers hands-on programming to provide clients with information about U.S. work culture, prepare them for employment through resume preparation and interview practice, connect them to job opportunities, and serve as a point of contact throughout the employment process to offer support as needed. The Early Employment internship will focus on resume creation and job readiness training for clients prior to job placement, as well as employer engagement through outreach and tracking of potential and confirmed partnerships. Responsibilities: Research potential employer partners, conduct outreach, and track partnerships Research job opportunities and track open positions and trends Create resumes by working one-on-one with clients Assist clients in filling out online and paper applications Accompany clients for job interviews and employment orientations Provide bus orientation for clients Provide general administrative support
