Deputy Chief of TEC
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) is hiring a Deputy Chief of TEC. DOT is responsible for the planning, design, building, and maintenance of: 2,000 miles of roadways; 7 miles of interstate highways; 298 bridges and culverts; 3,600 miles of sidewalks, curbing and gutters; 456 miles of alleys; 72,000 street lights; 1,300 signalized intersections; and 250,000 traffic and informational signs within the City of Baltimore. Accordingly, all Departmental activities will be focused on re-envisioning and altering public rights of way to better serve all neighborhoods and to ensure equitable investment across the City. Additionally, DOT leadership coordinates regularly with the Maryland Department of Transportation on transit supportive infrastructure and service and on state and federal funding for roadway and bridge projects within the City of Baltimore. Essential Functions: The Deputy Chief of the TED Division will be responsible for overseeing all capital projects design and construction. Responsible for keeping track of Federal Highway funded projects including planning, design, and construction. Supervise section managers including technical, administrative, and paraprofessionals. Prepare Contract books for the Alley and Footway section as well as the Reconstruction Department and DPW in construction projects for several communities throughout Baltimore City ranging from Steet Sweeping projects to Decorative projects within the City's Right of Way. Develop, recommend, and apply analytical (statistical and operational research) to business data, to predict and improve business performance. Recruit and hire staff and oversee consultant resources. Education and Experience Requirements: Have a master's degree from an accredited college or university. Consideration may be given to a combination of experience and/or education AND Have 10 (ten) years of experience managing engineering projects as an engineer and a minimum of three years directly supervising senior engineers, junior engineers, and engineering technicians. OR EQUIVALENCY NOTES: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
