Part Time Operations Aide

Summary of position: The part-time Operations Aide position is a dual position responsible for both custodial and event setup duties. Part-time employees will report to an Operation Shift Supervisor who is responsible for the direction of housekeeping and event operations in the Convention Center. The incumbent is responsible for their daily assignment for setup, custodial, or a combination of both, in the public and private section of the facility. Daily assignments and tasks will vary based on event needs. This is a non-exempt position and is considered non-essential. Essential functions: Sets-up and tear down of facility equipment (i.e., chairs, tables, staging, risers, trash cans, dance floors, coat racks, table skirting etc.) for events. Sweeps, mops, vacuum, and cleans floors in facility Loads and unloads supplies and materials Maintain trash around building perimeter. Custodial duties including but not limited to the following: clean, disinfect, and maintaining restrooms; clean and dust furniture; sweep, mop, and vacuum floors; wash walls and windows; stocking restroom supplies; follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies as directed. Trash removal throughout the event spaces Has contact with general public and clients in the workplace. Education and experience requirements: Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Commensurate experience will be considered in lieu of a high school diploma AND have one year work experience. One year of experience as a laborer preferred. Experience in hospitality is a plus. Education accreditation: Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities and interruptions. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with fellow staff and diverse constituents. Ability to stand and walk for large portions of the day. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 lbs. Ability to work under high pressure in meeting urgent deadlines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users. Ability to effectively read written instructions, manuals, signs, and product labels in English. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments. Knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, chemicals, tools, etc. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to assist public and show promoters with basic questions/problems or obtain a supervisor who can assist. Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, both orally and in writing. Must be available to flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shift examples include 8am to 2pm, 1pm to 7pm and/or 6pm to 12 midnight. Background check: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a criminal background check and/or fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.
