Student Sustainability Council (SSC) Community Coordinator
Position is open to Undergrad and Graduate students. Paid student position that serves as the primary point of contact and organizer for the SSC, a collaborative network designed to connect sustainability-focused student organizations, share resources, and cultivate a stronger culture of sustainability. This position is currently grant funded. Purpose
The coordinator will be responsible for planning and facilitating meetings and workshops, maintaining a centralized Canvas hub, and fostering communication and collaboration between student groups. This role is central to building long-term infrastructure for student sustainability at UT. Responsibilities
Coalition Building & Communication: Conduct outreach to sustainability-oriented student organizations across campus to grow SSC membership and engagement. Facilitate communication between student groups through emails, shared calendars, newsletters, and announcements. Coordinate a semesterly survey to collect feedback and improve SSC structure and activities. Act as a liaison between student leaders and the Campus Environmental Center, Office of Sustainability, and other campus stakeholders. Event & Workshop Planning: Plan and host monthly SSC meetings, including social events and skill-building workshops. Manage meeting logistics (space, food, supplies, agendas, communication). Collaborate with student leaders to identify workshop topics and invite guest facilitators as needed. Document meeting minutes, workshop materials, and shared learning outcomes. Canvas Hub Management: Design and manage a Canvas page that serves as a central hub for sustainability resources, announcements, and club documents. Upload and maintain toolkits, event calendars, best practices, workshop guides, and meeting recordings. Work with each club to ensure their events and updates are shared regularly. Organizational Development & Support: Help SSC member organizations improve internal documentation and transitions (ex: officer onboarding toolkits). Assist in developing a long-term SSC leadership structure (e.g., subcommittees or rotating leadership roles). Support cross-club collaborations and shared initiatives. Required Qualifications
(1) Passion for sustainability, environmental justice, or student organizing. (2) Strong interpersonal and communication skills. (3) Experience working with student organizations, event planning, or coalition-building (preferred but not required). (4) Ability to take initiative and work independently while also being highly collaborative. (5) Familiarity with Canvas, Google Workspace, and/or basic design tools (Canva, etc.) is a plus. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications
(1) Prior experience leading or advising sustainability-related student organizations or initiatives. (2) Demonstrated commitment to environmental or social justice through volunteer work, coursework, or community engagement. (3) Background in managing or supporting cross-campus partnerships or multi-stakeholder collaborations. (4) Knowledge of UT Austin's sustainability landscape. Salary Range
