is exempt from the State Human Resources Act. This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency's remote work program but does require weekly onsite work The Database Administrator II is responsible for serving as the primary Oracle and SQL Server Enterprise DBA. This is a critical role within the Applications and Database Development group and is responsible for maintaining the integrity, design, and security of multiple databases serving data to DEQ applications. This role is also critical in the transition to cloud technologies, and the agency's digital transformation efforts. Duties include, but are not limited, to:
Serves as the primary lesion to the Central DIT Database team and partners closely with this group in the overall administration of Oracle and SQL Server Databases instances. This includes ongoing and planned upgrades, patches, and migrations, in addition to ensuring secure access to the databases. Coordinate the setting up of new databases and maintain existing databases ensuring that the databases function properly and align with the organization's needs Performs data modeling analysis by maintaining, enhancing, and streamlining the data models as the requirements are identified throughout the agency's multiple projects. Constantly works to keep data organized and ready for data analysts to mine and applications to access Partners with agency application developers and execute tasks related to application development Serves as the backup to the primary DB2 Database administrator Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems, including design specifications, operational procedures, and security guidelines Assesses customer needs, develops technical solutions to increase program operating efficiency, and adapts to new requirements, as necessary Identifies opportunities for integration points with other core technology platforms About the Division
The IT Division of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) leads IT professionals in supporting the department's mission. The division develops IT strategic plans, policies, and programs that align with business strategies, integrates security controls and best practices, and manages a complex portfolio of over 100 applications. It also implements short and long-term IT goals, assesses new technologies, and plans IT roadmaps and architecture. The division is responsible for creating and implementing solutions for the department's business needs, including the design and development of internet, intranet, server-based, and cloud applications. Additionally, it provides training, troubleshooting, and recommendations for new or upgraded systems. The IT Division ensures day-to-day support for applications, websites, and other IT services such as desktop support, LAN/WAN, hosting, and printers.
