The Medical Assistant/Receptionist serves as a vital first point of contact for patients in a fast-paced behavioral health urgent care clinic. This hybrid role combines front-desk administrative responsibilities with clinical support duties to ensure seamless patient flow and high-quality care. The ideal candidate demonstrates compassion, discretion, and efficiency while managing patient intake, scheduling, insurance verification[JAB1], and basic clinical tasks such as taking vitals and preparing exam rooms. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment that supports individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Greet and check in patients with professionalism and empathy, ensuring a welcoming and trauma-informed environment. Schedule follow-up appointments and insurance coverage (if applicable). Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Take and record vital signs, assist with rooming patients, and prepare observation rooms for providers. Respond to phone inquiries, route messages appropriately, and support coordination of care. Monitor patient flow and communicate delays or urgent needs to clinical staff. Uphold confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations. Support crisis response protocols and de-escalation efforts as needed. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front office and clinical areas. Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited medical education program and certification as a Medical Assistant in the state of Michigan required. Minimum of one year of job-related experience required. Experience working with consumers have a mental illness or developmental disability and knowledge of psychotropic medications preferred.
Qualifications:
Must be willing and able to work irregular work hours, holidays and weekends. High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare or behavioral health setting strongly preferred. Experience working with adults and children is required. Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Ability to remain calm and compassionate in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations. BLS certification required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire). CPI de-escalation training required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire). Trauma-informed care training required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
