Correction Health Services This role can be based at any of three correctional facilities in Miami Dade County. Your location assigned is based on operational needs. The facilities are: Turner Guilford Knight: 7000 NW 41st Street Miami, Florida 33166 Pre-Trial Detention Center: 1321 NW 13th Street Miami, Florida 33125 Metro West: 13850 NW 41st Street Doral, Florida 33178 Shift Details: Per-Diem, 8 Hour Variable Schedule Why Corrections: Miami-Dade Corrections Health Services (CHS) operates under Jackson Health System (JHS) and serves approximately 5,000 patients daily. Patient care is delivered by nearly 400 healthcare employees representing a diverse multidisciplinary team of nurses & nurse support staff, physicians, psychiatrists, social workers and other professionals. CHS supports Miami Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation at 3 facilities in Miami-Dade County and leverages the resources of a large public safety net health system in the areas of education, quality, risk management & compliance. Summary
Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing a high level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical related supplies. Responsibilities
Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy. Troubleshoots for problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines. Forwards concerns that can not be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner. Prepares sterile products (add-a-vials, syringes, IV Admixtures, chemotherapy, large volume parenteral) following standard procedures established by policy and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. Assures that all quality related procedures are followed. Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested. For areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment, assures that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures. Performs extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy, and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist. Orders and receives medication inventory; rotates stock and checks expiration dates routinely. Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets. Maintains assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner. Assembles, tabulates and analyzes quality improvement data when requested. Assists in reports and survey tabulation when requested. Performs monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned. Enters data into the computer system specialized to that activity. Attends appropriate orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge. Participates in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age-related special needs and behaviors, etc. Assures a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to it being dispensed. Consults with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes, when making exceptions to a policy that would benefit the patient. Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience. High School diploma is required. Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
