What makes a McKibbon Regional Director of Engineering?
As a key member of the Corporate Engineering team, the Regional Director of Engineering (RDOE) supports the engineering and maintenance operations across a designated portfolio of hotels. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the RDOE must demonstrate a strong foundation in all aspects of facilities maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pool operations, and general property upkeep. This role provides multifaceted support through training newly hired Chief Engineers, participating in hotel openings and transitions, conducting facility inspections, creating Capital Expenditure plans, interviewing on-property engineering candidates, and leading task force maintenance efforts. The RDOE is expected to carry out these responsibilities while upholding the McKibbon Guiding Principles.
Day in the Life:
Support a team of on-property engineers in all aspects of hotel maintenance.
Develop a schedule to conduct site visits at every hotel in the region within 6 months, based on prioritization of needs.
Negotiate with contractors for the best prices and monitor their performance.
Understand and prepare operational and capital budgets.
Lead regional meetings with hotel Chief Engineers to share updates and best practices.
Evaluate each hotel’s engineering inventory to ensure readiness.
Maintain the physical plant while meeting guest needs within budget.
Communicate effectively with hotel leadership.
Evaluate and select candidates for engineering roles.
Hold engineering staff accountable to performance standards.
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance leadership role.
Experience in trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, pool maintenance, painting, etc.
Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
Extensive travel required (75-90%).
Reliable personal transportation needed.
Previous hotel experience preferred.
Ability to estimate labor and schedule work without disrupting hotel operations.
Problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Quore, and standard tools.
Understanding of blueprints and preventative maintenance.
Basic maintenance skills in plumbing, electrical, drywall, etc.
CPO certification for pool/spa testing preferred.
Ability to train others on safety procedures.
Knowledge of fire and safety regulations.
Strong listening skills and courteous demeanor.
