What makes a McKibbon Regional Director of Engineering?

As a key member of the Corporate Engineering team, the Regional Director of Engineering (RDOE) supports the engineering and maintenance operations across a designated portfolio of hotels. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering, the RDOE must demonstrate a strong foundation in all aspects of facilities maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pool operations, and general property upkeep. This role provides multifaceted support through training newly hired Chief Engineers, participating in hotel openings and transitions, conducting facility inspections, creating Capital Expenditure plans, interviewing on-property engineering candidates, and leading task force maintenance efforts. The RDOE is expected to carry out these responsibilities while upholding the McKibbon Guiding Principles.

Day in the Life:

Responsible for supporting a team of on-property engineers in all aspects of hotel maintenance.

Develop a schedule to conduct site visits at every hotel in the assigned region within a 6-month period based on a prioritization of hotel and company needs.

Negotiate with contractors to obtain the best prices for services.

Identify and monitor the performance of contractors to ensure service is performed satisfactorily.

Understand and prepare both operational and capital budgets.

Schedule and lead regional meetings with hotel Chief Engineers to share updates, best practices and safety knowledge.

Utilize both product and supplier knowledge to evaluate each hotel’s engineering inventory, ensuring the property team’s readiness to respond.

Effectively maintain the physical plant while meeting guest’ needs within the defined operations budget.

Utilize excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with hotel leadership.

Evaluate and select job applicants for on-property engineering roles.

Hold engineering associates accountable for meeting performance standards.

Requirements:

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance leadership position.

Experience in construction trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, basic heating and air conditioning, pool maintenance, painting, caulking, etc.

The nature of this position requires self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously with excellent communication skills.

This position requires extensive travel – 75 - 90% of the time.

Reliable personal transportation is required.

Previous hotel experience is highly desired.

Ability to effectively estimate the labor required to complete maintenance work and schedule work to avoid disrupting hotel operations.

Knowledge of problem-solving techniques.

Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft 356 suites, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as Quore to initiate, perform and report on service orders and PMs.

Ability to use standard hand and power tools, including but not limited to wrenches, pliers, drills, screwdrivers, hammers, electrical meters, etc.

Understanding of facility blueprints and drawings.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance methods and techniques for maintaining equipment.

Ability to perform basic maintenance skills surrounding the following areas: plumbing, A/C filter changes, clean coils, electrical work, drywall repair, wallpaper and carpentry work.

Experience with testing pool and spa chemical (CPO Certification ).

Ability to train others in the use of fire and life safety processes.

Experience conducting fire drills or life safety programs.

Knowledge of local, state and federal fire system and safety regulations for testing and operations in accordance with NFPA72.

Possess strong listening skills with the ability to comprehend and address concerns and issues raised by workers, clients, and guests.

Must be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to clients, guests, and associates.
