Overview
Under supervision, incumbent will work as a recruiter for a genetics study of autism funded by the Simons Foundation that involves on-line consenting and the collection of saliva from parents and children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Yale School of Medicine is one of >20 institutions working together to generate a large cohort of individuals with ASD so that genetic findings can one-day translate into improved treatments and outcomes for affected individuals. Primary responsibilities involve subject coordination and recruitment, answering phone calls from the community, scheduling patients, public speaking, event coordination, and identification and outreach of potential research subjects through community partners. The Bilingual (Spanish) Autism Recruiter will closely monitor subject enrollment via web-based tracking tools and will meet with the PI/head coordinator weekly to discuss program progress and to generate new ideas to further enhance success. The Bilingual (Spanish) Autism Recruiter will also be expected to be knowledgeable regarding HIPAA guidelines and the importance of protecting patient confidentiality and data. Incumbent will assist the coordinators to schedule home visits and provide interpretation as needed at such visits. This position requires working from home in evenings and/or over weekends and remote meetings once a week with the PI and/or main study team. Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to drive to relevant locations throughout the greater Connecticut as part of recruitment efforts at different times including evenings and weekends. Fluency in both Spanish and English required and experience working with clinical population is a plus. Must enjoy talking with people and interacting with families that have a special needs child. May be asked to be available for occasional recruitment events (e.g., Autism “Walk”) that occurs in the evening or on the weekends.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Demonstrated ability to work independently, effectively, and efficiently under pressure while managing multiple tasks with limited supervision. 2. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain research documents according to regulations. 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with web-based data entry systems (e.g., REDCap). 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with clients, families, community partners, and research colleagues. 5. Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to enter data electronically and learn new software programs.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Spanish fluency. 2. Effective community outreach. 3. Interacting with clinical populations. 4. Strong organizational skills. 5. Using different online communications and record keeping systems. Principal Responsibilities 1. Codes and records data. 2. Uses computer terminal to input and retrieve data and generate reports. 3. Creates charts, illustrations and graphic representations of data. 4. Performs clerical functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
