Dental assistants support dentists and hygienists in providing efficient patient care. They greet and seat patients, prepare and sterilize rooms and instruments, take dental radiographs, assist the dentist during procedures and provide posttreatment instructions. Assistants also manage inventory and maintain a clean clinical environment.
Responsibilities Include
- Welcoming and escorting patients to treatment areas and preparing them for procedures.
- Sterilizing and setting up instruments and treatment rooms and maintaining cleanliness according to infectioncontrol guidelines.
- Taking and processing dental Xrays under state guidelines and maintaining patient records.
- Assisting the dentist chairside during examinations and restorative, endodontic or oral surgery procedures, including suctioning and passing instruments.
- Instructing patients on postoperative care and reinforcing oralhygiene recommendations.
- Monitoring inventory and ordering supplies; performing lab tasks such as pouring models or packing temporary crowns as needed.
- Highschool diploma or equivalent and completion of a dentalassisting program or equivalent onthejob training.
- Radiography certification (if required by state) and knowledge of instrument sterilization and infection control.
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients and team members and to multitask in a fastpaced clinical setting.
- Availability for Sunday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. shifts plus three or four weekday evenings (8:30 a.m.-8 p.m.) and occasional Friday mornings.
