Principal Software Engineer

Join our innovative and dynamic People Technology engineering team as a Principal Software Engineer. In this role, you'll play a crucial part in designing, developing, and implementing digital solutions that address mission-critical business challenges, supporting Walmart associates. Your projects will make a significant impact, be scalable, and drive Walmart's modernization efforts in the People Technology organization. The Enterprise People Technology team supports the successful deployment and adoption of new people technology across the enterprise. People Technology is one of the major segments of Walmart Global Tech's Enterprise Business Services. What You'll Do: Collaborate with cross functional teams including business, product, and other software engineers to understand the business problem, review business requirements, draft technical requirements, scope, design, develop, test, and deploy services and systems. Lead your team in performing design and code reviews, improving operational excellence to ensure high quality, high availability, scalable and performant systems. Create large sized, complex applications, services, and systems. Lead in a number of layers in the tech stack, from front-end development to back-end services and data platform. What You'll Bring: At least 10+ years of relevant industry experience in building highly available systems. Demonstrated end-to-end ownership from inception to deployment of complex project in production. Effective problem-solving skills, ability to make design tradeoffs, balancing the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of design decisions. Understanding of cloud technology (architecture and deployments), including - Azure Offerings, Cloud storage, Cloud security, Cloud migration. Expertise with Relational and/or NoSQL Database. Experience with CI/CD and operational excellence best practices. Experience with backend languages such as Java, Python or NodeJs. Experience with React, TypeScript, CSS, HTML5 and front-end state management solutions such as Redux, Recoil, MobX, or similar. Experience with third-party integrations via libraries, SDKs and APIs. Effective communication and collaboration skills, including consensus building, conflict resolution, influence, and persuasion skills. Mentoring/coaching junior engineers in technical problem solving and career advancement.
