Principal Engineer II Software Development Engineering

Toyota is looking for team members who are passionate about technology and interested in joining a collaborative and highly motivated team as a Principal Engineer II Software Development Engineering. The primary responsibility of this role will be to own and lead the technical architecture design efforts, working with Supply Chain and Fulfillment Transformation teams, supporting multiple business units, and defining technology strategies/roadmaps from different points of view to modernize and transform Toyota's business. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Technology Architecture, the person in this role will join the Cloud Engineering & Software Development Support team to build and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and systems. This position is based in Plano, TX. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location. Responsible for end-to-end technical architecture and design while reducing technical debt for the Supply Chain and Fulfillment Transformation program. Be an architectural advisor providing thoughtful insights and helping to make tradeoff decisions to balance the needs of the enterprise and the needs of the portfolio; helping to define solutions from several points of view, including systems context, infrastructure, security, data architecture/modeling, integrations, DevOps automations, and total cost of ownership (TCO). Be a technical expert for various technologies used within the portfolio to provide internal consulting and advisory services to help Supply Chain and Fulfillment Transformation teams make the best use of technology to provide solutions for the business. Participate in technology selection/vendor selection processes using informal or formal methods such as Request for Proposal (RFP). Also support any necessary Proof of Concepts (POC) as part of technical evaluations. Lead architectural and technical governance activities for a given portfolio in support of enterprise processes such as Architecture Review Board (ARB), etc. Lead or support activities to help define business roadmaps, technical roadmaps, and/or product roadmaps across the portfolio. Lead or support activities to help define Portfolio Landscapes to describe the functional capabilities, technology footprint, technical risks, and architectural health of the portfolio. Champion best practices and modern software development techniques to prevent technical debt from accumulating within systems and across projects. A bachelor's degree or higher in any technology-related discipline in support of software development and technical architecture, or equivalent work experience. 10 years or more demonstrated work experience with increasing levels of technical ownership and responsibilities for technical architecture, software design, and development in a variety of business and technology environments. Effective communication skills to help others understand and influence/persuade others on technical and non-technical matters using written, verbal, and formal presentations to all levels of the organization and external partners. Demonstrated ability in making difficult/complex decisions considering different points of view and technical/non-technical considerations, such as situations where different technology products with different design choices have to be compared, NFRs must be addressed, balancing with TCO implications, decisions to be made by influencing people across several stakeholders with vested interests in competing options. Demonstrated ability at having gained/used increasing level of technical knowledge and hands-on experience in several technologies, software architecture styles, detailed design and implementation experience across the following: AWS/Azure/Google cloud-native applications, hybrid architectures between on-prem and cloud platforms, more than one relational/NoSQL based database technologies, more than one integration technologies and enterprise integration patterns/techniques, DevOps concepts and technologies related to CI/CD pipelines, IaC frameworks, etc. and several modern programming languages used in front-end development and back-end development with both design and development experiences.
