Duties & Responsibilities
Project Administrator - Office of Innovation and Strategic Design
The Office of Innovation and Strategic Design at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a project administrator to support university-wide front end innovation and strategic partnership initiatives in the Office of the Provost. The project administrator will work closely with faculty, staff, and students as well as administrators across the enterprise to advance high impact innovation projects and catalyze institutional knowledge of innovation and design thinking.
There will be considerable opportunities for the candidate to participate in the development and implementation of projects, project management, data collection and analysis. The program administrator will report to Dr. Garret Westlake, Vice Provost for Innovation and Strategic Design and Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship.
Unit Description:
The Office of Innovation and Strategic Design supports strategic partnerships and provides front end innovation support to VCU's academic enterprise through a combination of innovation, design, and business modeling. The office works closely with academic deans and other university leaders and offices to explore partnerships, lead experiments, develop prototypes, and assess and evaluate impact. Outcomes are measured at the unit level through increases in strategic partnerships, revenue generation, and the adoption of new technology and innovations that positively impact the student experience and academic enterprise.
Done well, our work raises the visibility of VCU and its students with potential partners and employers, empowers academic units to accelerate and improve their offerings, and advances award winning models and programs adopted by other institutions
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities: Project Management & Support (80%):
Gain familiarity with the entire scope and requirements of project Oversee project deadlines, and make recommendations to project leadership Ensure that executive sponsor and other key stakeholders are aware of project status and any barriers to successful project performance Develop appropriate methods to handle information. Interpret information and make informed decisions based on analysis Maintain knowledge of and work in compliance with current organizational policies and procedures relating to the execution of a project Support teams, committees, and tasks or functions related to projects Facilitation and Training (20%):
Design, deliver, and support workshops, seminars, and training sessions for various stakeholders. Mentor students and other team members on project-based work. Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member of VCU Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination) Proficiency in project management tools and practices Strong interpersonal and communication abilities The ability to quickly establish working relationships and build trust with a wide range of individuals and groups. Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and dynamic environment. Preferred Qualifications:
A background in data collection, analysis, and using data to inform strategic recommendations. Project Management Institute (PMI) certifications Experience with project management in a higher education setting Grant writing or grant support experience
