Project Manager
to oversee vessel repair projects in a shipyard environment. This position is ideal for individuals with strong organizational and technical skills, shipboard systems knowledge, and a proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and meet deadlines. Position Overview: As a
Project Manager , you'll be responsible for managing all phases of ship repair and maintenance projects - from planning and estimating through execution, billing, and closeout. You will coordinate across departments to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities: • Coordinate and schedule vessel repairs and inspections across all departments • Serve as the liaison between port engineers, department leads, and regulatory bodies • Provide estimates for additional work items and support bid preparation • Track job costs, generate weekly billing projections, and assist with invoice preparation • Submit final invoices and follow up on outstanding accounts • Set short- and long-term goals based on job priorities and available labor • Implement and manage safe repair operations onboard vessels • Oversee project scope, budget, quality, and schedule from initiation to completion • Establish and maintain the project contract baseline • Approve schedules, budgets, labor hours, and material expenditures • Identify and implement improvements in processes and work practices • Ensure accurate communication and documentation across teams • Maintain consistent, reliable attendance and communication • Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications: • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook • Minimum 5 years of shipboard experience in vessel repair or marine operations • Prior experience in a supervisory or management role required • Strong knowledge of marine systems and ship engineering principles • Familiarity with job cost tracking, estimating, and project controls • Excellent organizational and time-management skills • Able to work independently and with cross-functional teams • Self-motivated, steady, and reliable worker • Effective verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications: • Technical training or certification in ship repair, engineering, or related discipline • Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., ABS, USCG) • Experience managing shipyard projects with subcontractors and multi-trade coordination
