Now Hiring: Material Planner Location: Norfolk, VA Company: NSC Staffing NSC Staffing is actively seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Material Estimator / Procurement Support Specialist to join our team supporting U.S. Navy and commercial ship repair projects. This role plays a key part in the planning, coordination, and procurement of materials necessary for estimating and executing shipyard contracts. If you're organized, experienced with procurement processes, and comfortable working with both internal teams and external suppliers, we want to hear from you. Position Overview: As a Material Estimator / Procurement Support, you will be responsible for reviewing specifications, building bills of materials, coordinating with vendors, and supporting the estimation and procurement process for ship repair and maintenance projects. You will ensure material sourcing complies with company policy, cost efficiency, and FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations) compliance. Key Responsibilities: •Review 4E specifications and customer statements of work to determine material requirements •Build and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) for project estimates and awarded contracts •Ensure procurement aligns with company policy and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) •Analyze vendor pricing for cost, quality, availability, and lead time •Resolve logistical, transportation, or supplier issues in coordination with purchasing and project teams •Maintain accurate and up-to-date material quotes for awarded projects •Create and manage vendor profiles, including annual certifications and compliance documentation •Serve as a liaison between estimators, buyers, project managers, and suppliers •Maintain a quick-reference spreadsheet for historical material pricing •Evaluate supplier performance and assist in resolving vendor-related concerns •Assist with generating material, rental, and subcontractor requisitions and purchase orders •Assist with distributing RFPs to subcontractors and tracking responses •Update and maintain the Material Status Log and other related records •Perform additional related duties as assigned Skills & Qualifications: •Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook •Strong knowledge of materials, production processes, and quality control within ship repair environments •Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and specifications •Familiar with raw materials, fabrication methods, and subcontractor coordination •Strong communication and problem-solving skills •Ability to work collaboratively with estimators, buyers, suppliers, and project managers •Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision •Must be steady, reliable, and highly organized Preferred Experience: •Experience estimating materials for U.S. Navy or commercial vessel repair projects •Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and government procurement standards •Experience in a shipyard, marine, or heavy industrial environment is a plus Why NSC Staffing?
