Career Peers Program
The Career Peer will provide basic career education to students in one-on-one appointments with fellow students, increase awareness of the CCPD's services, events, and resources, make presentations to campus groups, and serve as a guide at select career events. Career Peers will participate in required professional development training aligned with the Mercer University Center for Career and Professional Development's Mission, Vision, and Core Values as well as the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies and Principles for Ethical Practice. The Mercer University Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) is excited to announce a new career support program called Career Peers, slated to launch in August 2025. The program will aim to hire select returning students who exemplify servant leadership, a growth mindset, and an eagerness toward career readiness to provide peer-to-peer career support. The Career Peer role is a paid position requiring approximately 10 working hours starting at $10 per hour. Up to eight Mercer student candidates will be selected to serve as a Career Peer for 2025-2026 academic year. Job Duties: Brand Promotion: Promote the career center's value to Mercerians, including the services, programs, and events Present 1530-minute presentations to the Mercer community as needed or requested Contribute to the CCPD Social Media Presence: Record one short (30-second) video per month for CCPD social media Reshare CCPD content and contribute peer insights Provide feedback on student engagement with social platforms Student-Facing Career Education and Feedback: Promote career readiness, career center resources and happenings in everyday student conversations Establish a set schedule for student-to-student career peer consultation appointments per week (can be in-person, phone, or teleconference) Review student resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles. Leverage CCPD's AI platforms as aids. Guide, mentor, and support students Share student feedback with the CCPD staff team as part of a continuous improvement plan Refer classmates to the CCPD services and staff Event Hosting and Participation: Attend at least one CCPD event monthly and interact with attendees. Guide and assist students attending campus career events, providing information and confidence-building encouragement Represent the career center to employer reps during on-campus recruiting events Skills: Strong affinity for career-mindedness and future planning Personable, interpersonal, and communication skills Interest in one's career development and passing forward empowerment to others Comfort with face-to-face interactions, public speaking (to small groups) Self-driven and reliable, good at time management, able to commit 5-10 hours per week Qualifications: Must have been enrolled at Mercer University for one academic semester, preferably two or more semesters in a campus-based program Must be enrolled during the time of employment Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to Mercer students who are Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligible.
