The Challenge (Job Summary): As an Audiologist, you are responsible for assessing and prescribing treatment for hearing disorders along with providing a full range of diagnostic, preventative, consultative and rehabilitative audiology services to patients and their family members. Your expertise will contribute to improving the quality of life for individuals with hearing impairments and communication difficulties. Your Day to Day & Essential Functions: You'll provide cerumen management to prevent obstruction of external ear canal and of amplification devices. You'll obtain case history and administer diagnostic tests to determine the nature, degree, and type of hearing problems. You'll consult with patients on the nature of their hearing loss and communicative problems and then develop their treatment plan. You'll conduct follow-up appointments to determine the patient's progress and modify their therapy program. You'll interpret results and dictate reports for medical records. You'll plan and direct treatment programs to restore patient hearing and work with other therapists. You will instruct patients and their families in rehabilitative procedures. You will perform hearing aid evaluations along with repairing hearing aids when necessary. You will make referrals for further diagnostic evaluation, therapy and/or treatment. You'll train and consult on environmental and interpersonal modifications to better facilitate receptive and expressive communication. You'll collect data, prepare reports, and maintain patient statistics. You'll help select audiology equipment, order hearing aids, and other supplies as needed. What You Need to Succeed (Competencies and Education): Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of testing and diagnostic equipment, disorders, and patient prognosis to establish a treatment plan. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public. Ability to present explanatory or interpretive information about the treatment program. Ability to motivate patients to participate in treatment programs. Ability to apply written guidelines and work practices to make decisions and prepare recommendations regarding problems. Ability to use speech therapy and sign language. Ability to write reports and document patient's progress. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to operate audiology equipment. Education and Work Experience: Graduation prior to January 01, 2006: Master's Degree in Audiology Graduation after January 01, 2006: Doctor's Degree in Audiology Certificates and Licenses Required: Eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competency in audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
