Job Summary
Under direction and within the scope of sectional policies, procedures and guidelines established by state statues, federal regulations, and other entities, provides intake services to juveniles referred to the Tulsa County Juvenile Bureau by performing the following duties.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform moderately complex social service work by individually screening and assessing juveniles during the period immediately following their referral to the Intake Department.
Conduct investigations regarding the juvenile's past delinquency record, school attendance, home environment, mental stability, and general attitude.
Counsel juveniles, parents, and guardians.
Make recommendations to authorities regarding release or further legal action.
Prepare files.
Refer juveniles to appropriate social agencies.
Assist in arranging psychiatric and or mental health services.
Compile records and write formal assessment reports.
Oversee the preparation of legal and social files when official court action is required or oversee the preparation of social files when legal action is not warranted.
Ensure that the juvenile's case is on the docket for the next available juvenile court hearing date to include court attendance.
Notify juvenile's parents or guardian immediately if the juvenile is placed in Detention.
Perform other duties as assigned.
LEVEL II ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Participate in specialized docket and or planning and programming conversations in collaboration with both internal and external community partners.
Attend meetings within and outside of the agency with internal and external collaborators as a representative of the Intake department.
Provide support and guidance in the absence of the Intake Coordinator/s.
Participate in special projects including but not limited to the collection of data, the creation of documents and presentation of said materials to agency leadership or community collaborators.
Participate in training new hires to include evaluation of progress and preparedness for the assignment of a caseload in both written and verbal form throughout the training process.
May be called upon, in instances of current employees displaying the need for specific training, to provide said training under the direction of the Intake Coordinator assigned to the employee in question.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
Skill in recognizing the underlying causes of social problems; in counseling an individual concerning personal and family problems; and in eliciting personal information.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of sociology applicable to juvenile casework; of County and State regulations pertaining to juvenile care; of departmental policies and procedures; and of Title 10A, Oklahoma State Statues, and other laws and regulations relevant to the field of Juvenile Justice.
Ability to deal diplomatically with others; to establish effective interpersonal relationships; to express both orally and in writing facts and opinions clearly and concisely; and to create a constructive atmosphere for crisis problem solving.
SUPERVISORY SKILLS
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in sociology or a closely related field, and over one year satisfactory full-time paid employment in social work, juvenile work or a related field. Other requirements are delineated in the Family Center for Juvenile Justice Level System Policy.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Internet software and Word Processing software.
