The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Summary: Performs technical and specialized skills in the operation of a magnetic resonance (MR) scanner to provide quality images of patients for diagnostic purposes and performs digital data analysis of multiple variable parameters of the MR scans. Shift / Hours: Monday - Friday 9:30am - 6pm and Saturday 6:30am - 3pm. You will work four days during the weekend and a Saturday rotation. Job Specific Competencies
Patient Care: Performs patient care activities within professional scope of practice including but not limited to: POCT, IV insertion, patient interview/assessment/discharge/ phone education and confirmation, patient transportation, preparation and administration of procedural related medications, etc. Ensures patient/family/staff and visitor safety at all times by monitoring his/her environment. Safely screens patients, and manages the clinical and research driven clinical /evaluation process for implanted devices to obtain clearance for the imaging procedure. This includes all aspects of patient event reporting (UHC/ PSN) & Stop the Line. Maintains strict control of access to clinical areas. (i.e., MR Zones, technical, supply, etc.) Follows MRI Safety & National Patient Safety Goals/ Guidelines. Recognizes patient distress signs, initiates and assists with emergency response teams. Adheres to all infection control practices. Applies knowledge of Age Specific Criteria in carrying out work duties and tasks. Recognizes examination findings that may require immediate clinical response and notifies the interpreting radiologist. Demonstrates ability to work effectively in all assigned areas. Demonstrates flexibility to the demands of patient care. Travel to off-site regional patient care facilities. Maintains cleanliness/orderliness of all imaging rooms, dressing rooms, and work area. Adheres to HIPAA requirements to protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Assures all necessary patient documentation is complete and accurate. Critical Thinking and Strategic Alignment: Applies critical thinking in both direct and indirect patient care situations. Maximizes productivity and operational effectiveness. Consistently engages in practices to expedite patient care. During system failure, performs section down-time procedures. Demonstrates effective communication skills. Ensures accurate, complete and timely transfer of images to PACS. Ensures completion of all duties and conducts verbal hand-off. Completes shift reports and follows up with supervisors/peers. Actively participates in quality and performance improvement activities. Participates in on-going learning activities. Fosters, assists, and encourages a receptive and nurturing environment. Suggests ways to improve efficiency. Adheres to Joint Commission standards. Maintains position required licensure and certifications. Attends, contributes, and participates in regularly scheduled departmental meetings. Documents incidents, variances, unusual circumstances, or patient concerns. Completes mandatory in-services and continuing education requirements. Aligns with American College of Radiology Accreditation standards. Technical Acumen: Demonstrates technical proficiency required to provide high quality exams. Ensures correct imaging site, positioning, annotation, and parameters. Demonstrates knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Demonstrates understanding of MRI physics. Maintains productivity standards. Error rates are minimized. Responsible for independent and proficient operation of all assigned MR equipment. Relays all equipment malfunctions. Performs general x-ray procedures. Responsible for accurately entering data. Education Required: Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Program. Preferred Education: Bachelor's Level Degree Certification: Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Licensed by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT). Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)certification. Preferred Certification: ARRT - MRI -ACLS - PALS/ PEARS Experience Required: One year of MRI Technologist experience or two years of Radiologic Technologist experience at M D Anderson. With preferred education no experience required. Preferred Experience: None Onsite Presence: 100% onsite Note: If you do not have ARRT in MRI, you must obtain within 60 days of job date.
