Laboratory Technician
Led by Dr. Lital Davidi, the Davidi Lab at Northeastern University is part of the Departments of Biology and Bioengineering and is affiliated with the Institute for the Plant-Human Interface (IPHI). Our mission is to translate fundamental discoveries in extremophile biology into sustainable solutions for agriculture and marine ecosystems. The Davidi Lab is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support cutting-edge research on stress adaptation in extremophilic microalgae. The Davidi lab investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms evolved by extremophile Dunaliella species, using a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, molecular biology, and synthetic biology. The Laboratory Technician will work alongside the Principal Investigator and other members of the lab, in the execution of research projects. Execution of an independent project is also possible depending on the individual's interest and demonstrated abilities. This position will involve minimal lab management duties. Responsibilities: Conduct experimentation necessary to meet the goals of the projects Assist in experimental design and troubleshooting Maintain laboratory in a clean and safe manner Maintain well documented laboratory records Perform basic lab maintenance tasks such as ordering laboratory reagents and small equipment, preparing media solutions, using sterile technique, and keeping detailed lab records May report research activities at monthly lab meetings May train and instruct less experienced personnel Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or Biochemistry required, Master's degree preferred. In addition, the successful candidate must demonstrate a high scholastic performance in college. A GPA of at least 3.7 is recommended. Previous experience in molecular biology (DNA and RNA purification, PCR, molecular cloning design, miniprep, etc.), and protein biochemistry (protein expression, purification, Western blotting) is desired. Prior experience with microalgae or plants, along with a solid foundation in omics technologies such as transcriptomics and proteomics, is a considerable advantage. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills and great attention to detail, as well as the ability to work individually and in groups. Position Type: Research Additional Information: Northeastern University considers factors such as candidate work experience, education and skills when extending an offer.
