Base pay range
$150,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr
A boutique family law and civil litigation firm based in Cupertino, CA is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead its growing operations. The COO will oversee key functions including finance, human resources, marketing, client intake, billing, and strategic growth initiatives. This role involves managing direct reports across intake, reception, legal support, and outsourced accounting while collaborating closely with the firm owner to scale and optimize operations. This is a remote role, preferably based in the Bay Area, with occasional travel required. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, extensive operational expertise within law firms, advanced marketing knowledge including SEO and paid advertising, and a proven ability to foster a positive, client-focused culture.
Salary Range: $150,000 - $250,000k / year DOE
COO Responsibilities
- Lead financial planning, forecasting, reporting, billing, collections, and payroll functions
- Oversee human resources including recruiting, hiring, training, employee evaluations, salary and benefits administration
- Manage facilities and remote employee resources, equipment, vendor relationships, and records management
- Direct operational strategy, risk management, quality control, and firm growth initiatives
- Develop and manage marketing efforts including SEO, paid advertising, social media campaigns, public relations, and business development
- Supervise intake process and client relationship management, ensuring high service standards with complex clients
- Oversee billing operations with a focus on retainer and contingency fee models
- Build and mentor a team of 5+ direct reports with potential expansion to legal and paralegal staff
- Minimum 5 years of senior-level operations experience in a law firm environment, ideally COO or equivalent
- Proven ability to collaborate with CFOs, CMOs/Marketing Directors, managing attorneys, and HR leadership
- Strong marketing expertise with hands-on experience managing paid ads (Google Ads, Meta, YouTube, Instagram), organic social media, SEO and website content, B2B referrals, PR, and traditional marketing strategies
- Demonstrated HR skills including employee lifecycle management and fostering a positive workplace culture
- Experience managing client intake processes and familiarity with contingency fee and retainer-based practice areas such as family law, wills & trusts, criminal, and immigration law
- Skilled in accounts receivable, collections, and client billing issues
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Tech savvy with excellent leadership and communication skills
- Comfortable working remotely, preferably based in California with ability to travel to Bay Area as needed
