Job Summary:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University of San Francisco (USF) is recognized internationally as a leading Jesuit,

urban university with an exceedingly diverse student and faculty population and a global

perspective. The Office of Development is investing in the growth of our team! Every

member plays a role in providing our donors with the service and attention that ensures

an exceptionally positive and fulfilling philanthropic experience. The Assistant Director

of Development, School of Management, is an integral part of the Major Gifts team and

will play a critical role in our expansion.

We are currently in a quiet phase of our $500 million capital campaign; and this role will

help to build stronger ties with our alumni and surrounding communities. The next five

years will be crucial as we launch several significant initiatives, including building upon

alumni relationships, helping to launch the School of Management’s campaign of $50

million and celebrating next year’s Centennial anniversary of the business school.

The School of Management has eight graduate programs and nine undergraduate

programs and over 50,000 alumni worldwide. The Assistant Director will help to actively

build and support the School of Management fundraising pipeline, assist with supporting

Advisory Boards, volunteer committees, and collaborate with the Dean of the School of

Management, the alumni engagement and special events teams, and help to plan

events and activations to engage with major donors, alumni and the business

community.

Reporting to the Director of Development, School of Management, the Assistant

Director fundraises for all programs and campaign priorities in the College, actively

building and managing relationships and securing funding from donors capable of

making gifts of $25,000+ with a goal of over $100,000 in year one and increasing in

subsequent years.

Full Job Description:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing an initial personal portfolio of 75-125 prospects, developing ongoing personal relationships with those prospects from research and identification through cultivation, solicitation, closure, and stewardship. Makes at least 8-10 significant prospect/donor visits per month. Qualifies 24-36 major gift prospects per year. Cultivates and solicits current use and endowment gifts directly, including proposal development. Conducts a minimum of 6 solicitations with a goal of raising $250,000+ in year one.
  • Staffing the advisory boards and volunteer committees for the School of Management. Responsibilities include identifying and helping to recruit committee members and playing an integral role in supporting and deepening relationships with these volunteers and their various volunteer committees to support the mission of the business school.

Strategic Planning 15%

  • In partnership with the Director of Development, establish a five-year strategy to substantially grow contributions at all levels and through all channels to the School, increasing the number and amount of major gifts the School receives annually. A critical component of this strategy will also be to secure major gifts from the alumni, the business community, non-alumni and parents. This position will help to implement and manage the Young Alumni membership program within the School of Management.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, and Annual Fund teams on relevant and timely fundraising efforts.
  • Remaining current on programs and faculty/research/student initiatives in the School of Management and at the University as a whole.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and/or equivalent experience or training, with a preference for candidates who have advanced degrees.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of fundraising or related experience that is progressive and successful development experience in major gifts.
  • Proven ability to achieve fundraising goals and a high level of comfort and effectiveness working with faculty, high net worth individuals, business executives and community leaders.
  • A sense of urgency in gift discussions and responding to philanthropic opportunities, being adaptable and achievement oriented.
  • Excellent written, verbal and listening skills with the ability to collaborate with and achieve results within diverse populations. A clear and confident communicator that displays spirit, enthusiasm and integrity.
  • Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence, and the ability to collaborate, build trust, and achieve objectives within a team.
  • Familiar with and/or ability to learn about USF, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, and infrastructure.
