Essential Job Duties As a

Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician , you'll be responsible for

diagnosing and repairing

a variety of issues, including lights, equipment components, complex wiring problems, engine and drive-train performance, brakes and suspension, hydraulic systems, and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH). Your expertise will ensure that all vehicles and equipment are operating at their best, contributing to the overall success and safety of the campus community. This position is key to supporting

Grounds and Fleet Services,

ensuring the smooth operation of campus-wide programs across over 2,000 acres of landscape and 14.6 million square feet of buildings. With a community of 33,000 students and 7,500 faculty and staff, your work will directly impact the daily life and functionality of the entire campus. Key responsibilities and duties include, but not limited to:

Perform diagnostics and repairs

on a wide range of vehicles, including cars, vans, trucks, equipment, and trailers. Diagnose, repair, and overhaul complete

electrical and mechanical systems , ensuring all components function effectively. Ensure compliance

with industry service standards by obtaining and following relevant procedures and guidelines. Determine the cause of issues and execute repairs using hand tools, scanners, specialized diagnostic equipment, manual inspection, visual examination, and

audible diagnostics.

Record detailed notes and updates in the

fleet management software system

to maintain accurate service records. Identify trends that could impact

service quality

by monitoring repair part quality, delivery times, part costs, and vendor customer service. Build strong relationships with vendors and customers is crucial to extending fleet life and maintaining competitive costs. Analyze repair trends

on specific makes and models to help the shop plan, prepare, and prevent potential breakdowns.

Other Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned. This position is essential, requiring the employee to work during adverse weather conditions and potentially even when the University is closed for normal operations.

Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Experience in the field of work related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Other Required Qualifications

Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters. Basic computer skills required for email communication, leave, and basic job functions. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

Work experience with gas and diesel vehicles. Required License or Certification

Valid driver's license required. North Carolina driver's license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
