Position: Therapeutic Recreation Director Position Summary The Therapeutic Recreation Director is responsible for developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating activity and recreation programs to enhance residents' quality of life. This includes completing assessments, contributing to care plans, and ensuring activities meet residents' individual interests and well-being. The Director monitors responses to programs, revises as needed, and ensures compliance with the Resident's Bill of Rights and the facility's QAPI program. In locations without TR Aides, the TR Director will also perform TR Aide duties. Responsibilities: Develop and implement structured, person-centered activity programs based on assessments, including various types of activities. Maintain activity calendars, communicate scheduled events, and promote resident participation. Support social interaction, emotional well-being, and independence through tailored activities. Complete assessments, update care plans, document participation, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team. Train, supervise, and motivate TR staff and volunteers, fostering creativity and engagement. Manage department budget and supplies, ensure safety and infection control compliance, participate in leadership meetings, and maintain a positive work environment. Qualifications Licensed or registered Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Activities Professional, qualified occupational therapist/assistant, or relevant healthcare activity experience. Experience in healthcare settings like skilled nursing or assisted living is preferred. Strong multitasking, adaptability, resilience, and ability to work in fast-paced environments. High emotional intelligence, active listening, clear communication, and trust-building skills with residents, staff, and families.
