Education

Graduationfromanaccreditedcollege oruniversitywithaBachelor'sdegreeinComputer Science, Data Communications, Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering. High School Diploma or GED with 4 years of progressively responsible experience in enterprise voice and data network technologies, or an equivalent combination of post high school education in Computer Science, Data Communications, Telecommunications or Electrical Engineering is considered

Minimum Experience

Seven(7)years ofexperiencemanaging unionresourcesandmanagingmultiple shiftstoprovide 24x7x365 operations maintenance support and development/enhancement project support. Must include three (3) years of experience in structured and patch cabling technologies for both copperandfibercables, includingcablingforsafetysensitive operations,data-centeroperations and business applications utilizing industry and best practices for enterprise cabling. Mustincludethree(3)yearsormoreexperienceimplementing,conductingcorrectiveand preventive maintenance on outside plant 2 pair copper cables. ExperiencewiththeimplementationofbroadbandtechnologiessuchasGigabit, Ethernet,Multiple Protocol layered switching, Session Initiated protocol and other technology schemas.

Summary

The Manager, Network Technology Operations must have a general understanding network and communication concepts: VLAN and WAN, routing and switching schemas and Public Switched Telephone networks for voice services from carriers like Verizon and ATT. This position is responsible 24x7x365 for the daily maintenance and management of the WMATA voice and data networks, and communication systems in support of WMATA and Digital Modernization'ss Mission and Goals. The voice and data networks include Metronet Voice and Data (wired and wireless), regional partner business networks,andprivateCellular Networks.Thisposition workscloselywiththeDigital Modernization

leadership team, functional areas, Metro Integrated Command and Communications Operations Center, Rail and Bus Operation and other WMATA business units, to ensure that all WMATA networks and communications systems are operating in a robust, reliable and secure manner on a 24x7x365 basis.

Responsible for the daily operation of the voice and data network, as well as the network communication infrastructure (cabling/racks/power/closets). Ensures that installations, modifications,back-ups,problemresolutionandotheroperationsarecarriedoutinacarefuland well-documented manner. AdherestoallWMATApublishedstandards,proceduresandprotocolsforaddressingor responding to any network or communication system request. Providessupportfortrouble-shootingandre-establishingnetwork services(voiceanddata)when performance degradation or outages occur on a 24x7x365 basis. Assistsinfinancial planning,performanceappraisals,andothertypical administrativeand managerial functions associated with management of a technology team. AssiststheDigital ModernizationLeadershipinplanninganddesigningnewandupgraded services for voice, video and data network service. Actsasaliaisonbetween theNetworkEngineers,IntegratedCommunicationTechnicians,Chief Network Architect, Digital Modernization Sr. Management, and other Information Technology teams to ensure that each WMATA customer or department request is completely satisfied. Providesmanagementoversight andsupportrelated toenterpriseclassnetworkvoiceanddata operations. Overseesthedeploymentandongoingdaily managementofafullrange ofenterprisenetwork technical voice and data systems, including the management of phone systems, data network routers and switches, and systems ancillary to the voice and data systems (voicemail, DHCP servers, etc.); circuits provided by commercial communication service providers (Internet Responsibleforthemonitoringandperformancemanagementoflarge-scaleenterprisenetworks using hardware tools and software-based network management tools and test equipment. Providessupportfortrouble-shootingandre-establishingservices whenperformancedegradation or outages occur - on a 24x7x365 basis. Assurestheretention,technologydevelopment,efficacy andmoraleofacompetent staff.
