Senior Project Accountant – Senior Level Consulting Role
Client: National Nonprofit Advocacy Organization Our client, a high-impact nonprofit advocacy organization with multiple affiliated entities, seeks a seasoned Senior Project Accounting Consultant with deep experience in nonprofit and PAC financial operations. This role is ideal for a senior-level accountant or finance consultant with public accounting roots and hands-on expertise in complex, multi-entity environments. Key Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day accounting operations and financial data consolidation across multiple entities (e.g., 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(6))
Prepare and present consolidated and entity-level financial statements, budgets (operating and capital), and internal management reports
Coordinate annual audits, including F/S and 401(k); collaborate with external and internal auditors; respond to auditor findings and draft management responses
Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB ASU 2018-08, and relevant regulatory and tax reporting (Form 990, 1099s, 1042s, charitable registrations, etc.)
Evaluate and improve shared services models and cost allocation methodologies across affiliates
Support Development with donor revenue reporting, endowment distribution tracking, and grant revenue/expense modeling
Contribute to internal control development and cross-functional policy/procedure training
Prepare account reconciliations (e.g., cash, investments, receivables, payables, fixed assets); review complex chart of accounts structures
Engage with leadership and board/committee members on financial performance, forecasts, and risk assessments
Analyze and monitor debt covenant compliance, reserve balances, and endowment activity
Support foreign entity reporting (if applicable) and assist with affiliate agreement reviews and updates
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)
10+ years of progressive accounting experience; prior public accounting experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated hands-on experience with: Microsoft Dynamics

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Deep understanding of nonprofit accounting, revenue recognition (FASB ASU 2018-08), and grant/endowment reporting
Experience preparing or reviewing financials for multiple entities (including consolidated budgets of $100M+ and staff sizes of 500+)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of collaborating across departments and presenting to senior leadership and boards
Self-starter with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and drive process improvement independently
Ideal candidates will have: Experience working with organizations organized under multiple tax-exempt statuses (e.g., 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), etc.)
A history of preparing consolidated and entity-level financial reports, including capital budgets, endowment tracking, and donor reporting
Familiarity with shared services and intercompany allocations
A practical understanding of board governance and reporting structures, including supervisory experience across finance, payroll, AP/AR, and compliance functions
