Job Description

Assists faculty with preparation, setup, inspection of equipment and monitoring of HVAC lab activities. Performs preventative maintenance, repairs on laboratory systems, equipment and testing instruments as scheduled and as required. Ensures the training systems, equipment, tools and testing instruments are in safe operating condition. Provides technical support and assists students while performing their laboratory assignments.

Responsibilities

Assists faculty in setting up laboratory systems, equipment and trainers for students to perform their hands-on assignments as scheduled.

Monitors students while they perform their laboratory assignments and ensures they are following the proper safety protocols and provides technical support to student's while performing their laboratory assignments.

Participates in division and program meetings, program workshops, information sessions, recruitment and special events.

Performs clerical assignments, such as making copies, filing documents, maintaining records, assisting with reports, course revisions, and other duties as assigned by the department chair/coordinator.

Under the direction of the Department Chair/coordinator, maintains the program equipment, tools, testing instruments, and supplies.

Ensures that all equipment and tools are secure, functional, and safe to use or operate.

Under the direction of the Department Chair, assists in performing inventory of instruments, tools and equipment. Ensures that inventory supplies and materials are available in the laboratories daily.

Identifies safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, damaged tools and testing instruments and performs equipment repairs as assigned.

Assists in evaluating capital equipment inventory and performs the annual inventory assessment for material/equipment orders.

Communicates and shares information with the Department Chair/coordinator and related programs to address potential hazards and resolves problems or issues that arise.

Collaborates with faculty, staff, and other departments to provide information and support pertaining to the HVA Program activities.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required with college level technical training certifications and industry-based certifications, or Associate in Applied Science in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Must be EPA certified to properly handle refrigerant.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years' technical experience maintaining and repairing various types of mechanical and electrical HVACR equipment. Must have general knowledge of Microsoft software such as Word and Excel. Knowledge of Building Automation Systems software. must have excellent customer service and communications skills (oral & written), work independently and in a teamwork environment/setting.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Must be fluent in English and have a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis, lift 100 lbs. occasionally, and work in industrial environments, including extreme temperatures with continuous walking, reaching, bending and/or kneeling. Must be willing to travel to educational locations. Must be available for evening and weekend rotating schedule, and on-call work.
