Mechanical Engineer Engineering Section Leader
The Air Defense Ground Equipment Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelter systems, electronic sub-systems, launchers, hardware integration, and interconnects. The department is seeking a motivated and driven Mechanical Engineer Engineering Section Leader for the Department Technical Staff Section Leader, with technical expertise and experience in mechanical hardware design, integration, program execution, and production support. The Technical Staff Section Leader is responsible for: Oversight and alignment of ADGE department Technical Staff with major programs executed by the department that encompass shelter mechanical design, electronic equipment integration, major end item development, enclosure vendor support, power and cooling equipment integration, and sustainment of the existing product line. Support and lead multi-disciplined engineering teams and provide solutions and services across all program phases. Areas of focus can encompass development of next generation of sensing technologies, design development for the existing products, transition to production, product support, vendor oversight, and field upgrades. Support and leadership of proposal and EAC activities. Development and execution of program staffing plans. Facilitating mentoring and training between the Technical Staff Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the department engineers. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Provide direct line management and leadership for 15-20 highly skilled, senior, and experienced engineers, SMEs, and project leaders. Served as the liaison to the programs and IPTs concerning staffing assignments, forecasting, and resource allocation. Oversee technical performance of individual contributors and engineering leads. Provide technical guidance and project support throughout the product life cycle. Support and oversee Technical Data Package Development and peer reviews. Responsible for employee leadership development, mentoring, motivating, training, and recognition. Conduct performance reviews and support recruitment and retention efforts. Lead and support Mechanical Products Team (MPT) directorate initiatives to improve productivity and efficiency. Oversee mid to large sized cross functional engineering teams as a technical execution lead through all phases of development from proposal generation, program start up, requirements allocation, preliminary design, detailed development, and first article production. Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements. Support the factory and suppliers with product integration domestically and internationally. Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges to support production milestones. Meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals. Regular review of program status including tracking and review by both Engineering Leadership and Program Leadership. Extensive knowledge of hardware engineering capabilities to ensure successful technical execution. Ability to partner with the chief engineer and technical leads is required. Required Qualifications: Ten+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with minimum 6 years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments. Experience leading engineering teams with responsibility for cost, schedule, and technical performance. Proven ability to work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team environment, interfacing with multiple Engineering disciplines, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IPT Leadership, Program Managers, and Customers. Previous mechanical design experience including trade studies, concept definition through detailed design and transition to production and production support, including supplier support and Execution of Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis and Cost Reduction Initiatives. Experience with generation of engineering white papers. Willingness to travel (domestic and international). Typically requires a Bachelor's in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of (insert years of experience based on job level) years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations. Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. Desired Qualifications: Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Excellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications. Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, shelter assemblies, power distribution equipment packaging, and rack systems. Knowledge of Agile product development methods. Advanced problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Power Point/Project). Experience with current manufacturing systems and processes. Reliability or failure analysis experience. Able to work well with people and achieve results with a minimum of conflicts and within schedule and budget. Previous experience that includes adaptability and willingness to work varying assignments. Demonstrated team player, self-driven leader with excellent collaboration skills. Team leadership; experience leading a multi-disciplined, technical team with the ability to develop, empower, motivate, and monitor the team.
