Platform Engineer Lead

Pioneering Evolution is seeking a full-time, on-site Platform Engineer Lead to lead the design and implementation of middleware services and DevSecOps pipelines that enable secure, scalable, and auditable operations for a federal software platform supporting financial compliance and modernization objectives. This role blends middleware architecture (authentication, service orchestration, API design) with DevSecOps leadership (CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and Zero Trust security enforcement). The successful candidate will bring a strategic mindset, a strong foundation in .NET Core, and the ability to mentor others while driving forward secure and extensible system design. U.S. Citizenship is required. This position requires a Secret Clearance and is based in the Washington D.C. metro area. Responsibilities: Architect and implement middleware components including authentication, RBAC, routing, and logging. Lead the design and integration of secure, scalable RESTful APIs across system boundaries. Own and maintain CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and policy enforcement. Collaborate with DevOps, QA, frontend, and backend teams to deliver seamless full-stack integrations. Enforce platform-wide security practices including encryption in transit/rest and audit traceability. Apply Zero Trust principles and compliance frameworks (e.g., FIAR, NDAA) to infrastructure design. Support AI/ML integration via secure service routing and centralized logging frameworks. Mentor engineers and promote technical best practices and operational excellence. Required Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Architecture, or a related field. 7+ years of experience in middleware engineering, DevSecOps, or platform integration roles. Proficiency with C#/.NET Core and API/middleware design patterns. Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation). Expertise with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and secure platform design. Strong leadership, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Must be available to work full-time and on-site in the Washington D.C. metro area. U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret Clearance are required. Desired Experience: Experience supporting DoD or federal IT systems with audit/compliance mandates. Familiarity with Zero Trust security models, STIG compliance, and secure API gateways. Understanding of AI/ML pipeline integration from a platform services perspective.
