RTX is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer / Linux with well-rounded Linux Infrastructure Engineering expertise to join an agile product team. The ideal candidate will have experience in both traditional infrastructure design; provisioning of platform, storage, and networking resources for existing on-premises infrastructure hardware that ideally also has experience in emerging DevOps/DevSecOps & Modernized technologies. The Principal Platform Engineer would be engaged in the design and implementation of the system updates and upgrades with focus on the Linux Server / Linux OS expertise and will interface both with the Program's Sr. Management and the Customer for Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) as required. The Principal Platform Engineer / Linux would be involved with development, implementation of traditional compute/network/storage systems and related deployments, as well as support improving the program platform's over-arching design through new emerging technologies. This includes existing operating systems and existing server hardware designs, as well as supporting the design and development of new modernized system architectures. Note: This position is based in Springfield, VA and will be working within a Secure Compartmented Integration Facility (SCIF) and may require some travel (10% or less) to customer sites for support and possible on call support/overtime. What You Will Do You will maintain existing systems through Linux-based tools and manage the COTS/FOSS software on the system to support program needs You will assist in training other engineers to support the Program / Team as needed to support program Operations You will be the focal point for the equipment room (lab) to ensure that all computer networks and storage resources are maintained for the program's use You will participate in the deployment of new system baselines (e.g. operating systems, software, network configurations, and data storage configurations) You will travel to customer sites to assist in system updates, deliveries, and troubleshooting when necessary You will be part of a call-in rotation to provide occasional off-hours support. Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires BS/BA Degree in Science, Technology Engineering Math (STEM) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or Physics and 8 years of related work experience Experience with VMware: vCenter and ESXi Experience with Linux system administration (RHEL/OL preferred) Experience with networking administration: LAN and firewalls (Cisco preferred) Current TS/SCI / CI Poly issued security clearance is required day 1. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance Qualifications We Prefer Experience with Bash scripting Experience with hardware maintenance (e.g. troubleshooting, FRU replacement) Experience with out-of-band management (e.g. iDRAC, terminal server concentrators) Experience with Dell and Cisco hardware Experience with NTP (Network Time Protocol) Experience with Smart PDU (Power Distribution Units) General experience with Nagios General experience with Microsoft Windows operating system General experience with SAN and NAS administration Experience with NFS and DNS administration Experience with LDAP administration (e.g. creating and managing user and groups) What We Offer Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
