A Brief Overview Functions under the WMG Emergency Preparedness Manager to execute all safety aspects for entities of Wellstar Medical Group. The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), and regulatory and accreditation safety guidelines. Primary goal will be to minimize hazards and promote a culture of safety within the company. Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and staying updated on safety regulations, codes and standards applicable to the industry. What You Will Do Identifying and mitigating hazardous situations. Identifying Potential Hazards: Regularly inspecting the workplace to identify potential hazards that could cause harm to employees. Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures. Risk Assessment: Evaluating the risks associated with identified hazards and determining appropriate control measures. Conducting safety inspections and audits. Regular Inspections: Conducting regular safety audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement. Participate in Continuous Survey Readiness programs/surveys. Data Analysis: Conducts ongoing trend analysis of work-related injuries and illnesses to identify opportunities for targeted programs for injury reduction. Must be knowledgeable of general industry healthcare related exposures related to bloodborne pathogens, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, patient handling, workplace violence prevention, machine guarding, confined space, control of hazardous energy, walking/working surfaces, material handling, electrical safety, and other industrial exposures. Corrective Measures: Implementing corrective measures based on audit and inspection findings. Safety Training and Education. Conducting Training Sessions: Providing regular safety training to employees on various topics, including hazard recognition, emergency procedures, and safe work practices. Facilitating effective communication of safety information to staff and management. Promoting Safety Awareness: Encouraging a culture of safety through continuous education, and communication. Use of Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) PPE Management: Ensuring that employees have access to and are using the correct PPE for their tasks. Training: Educating employees on the proper use, maintenance, and limitations of PPE. Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that the workplace complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and other relevant regulations. Educating employees on safety protocols and procedures. Ensures survey readiness for regulatory inspections (OSHA, EPA, GA EPD, etc.) Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance efforts as required by OSHA. Take corrective action when opportunity for improvement is identified during monitoring Activities. 40% Develop and implement health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety. Inspect equipment and machinery to identify potential hazards. Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes of employee and safety events and development of sustainable corrective actions. Conduct training and presentations on health and safety matters and accident prevention. Monitor compliance with policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations. Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures. Prepare reports on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics for upper management. Serve as OSH Champion for Wellstar Medical Group. Organize impactful safety campaigns to promote awareness. 30% Responsible for supporting the emergency preparedness manager with the emergency management program to ensure compliance of all responsibilities related to system, regulatory and State requirements. Serves as subject matter expert in the development of staff education on safety. Supporting emergency preparedness and response efforts, including developing evacuation plans and procedures. Serves as Safety Committee Chairperson for assigned committees. Supports Emergency Preparedness/Environment of Care committees to address occupational safety and health exposures and trends. Coordinates with the local facility OSH Champions EP Manager and Safety & Quality Directors to ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA is adequate and the facility safety plans are reviewed at least annually Serves as a collaborator with Risk Management representative for assigned facility. Assists departments with situations involving incident report activity with preliminary investigative function Qualifications Associates Degree Required Bachelors Degree Preferred Minimum Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field Required Required Minimum Certification: ASP - Associate Safety Professional-within 18 months of hire Required Additional License and Certifications: Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA)-within 18 months of hire Required Our people are passionate about what they do, the product they sell, and the customers they serve.
